In a leap of the agency to adapt to technological advancements and innovations, NIA Region VII Engineers, headed by Regional Manager Engr. Reyne B. Ugay, participated in the Factory Training and Pre-Delivery Inspection of Dam Automation Instruments at Ludwigstraße Kempten, Germany.

Along with RM Ugay are NIA R7 Engineering and Operations Division Manager Engr. Orencio M. Apale, Electro-Mechanical Section Head Engr. Arnold L. Salazar, Bohol Integrated Irrigation System Head Engr. Evelina P. Putong, and Climate Change Adaptation Works (CCAW) Project-In Charge, Engr. Andrew Anto.

The team conducted meetings and product presentations with various suppliers in Germany namely: OTT Hydromet, a provider of Hydrological & Meteoroligal Sensors; HORMANN Company, a provider of Early Warning Systems; KISTERS Group which provides various hydrological sensors, Data Management System and flood forecasting softwares; Lastly, GAMIC for X-Band Weather Radar where Hydrological products, cloud, storm tracking are some of its capabilities.

NIA will procure equipment such as Automatic Weather Sensor, Discharge Flow Meter, and Water Level Sensor that would provide data logging, reporting, control, and alarms for effective maintenance to ensure safe and reliable operation.

Automated monitoring systems have become an important part of many dam maintenance programs to provide reliable real-time data and alarms to assist in remote management.
